At Cutwel we have 45 degree and 36 degree face mills with 45 degree being the most popular of the two. 45 degree refers to the entry angle at which the insert makes contact with the component, this lead angle generates lower cutting forces, and minimises entry shock compared to that of a 90 degree system where you have no lead angle. Below are a few advantages and disadvantages of using a dedicated 45 degree or 36 degree face milling system over a 90 degree system.
