The school has been known as the rival of one of the country’s biggest and most prestigious university: De La Salle University, which begs the question, “why should you study at Ateneo De Manila University?”
Ateneo De Manila University is a private Roman Catholic Jesuit University which was founded in 1859 by the Society of Jesus. The university offers Elementary Education and Junior High Education exclusively to male students, while their Senior High School and College Programs are co-educational.
Students who study here are often referred to as ‘Atenista’ or ‘Ateneans’. The undergraduate programs in this university follows a Catholic-rooted curriculum mainly because it is founded by a Catholic Organization. Now, why should one study at Ateneo De Manila University instead of all these other prestigious universities in Manila?
CULTURE AND FACILITIES
One of the reasons why you should study in Ateneo is of course, the culture of the people here. They give value not just to Academics but to extra curricular activities and social awareness. They have been very active in some well-known competitions such as the UAAP games, cheer dance competition, and various other competitions in and out of the country. Also, they make sure that you get your money’s worth for you or your child’s education. The 100,000+ pesos tuition fee is absolutely worth it! They offer great facilities like their Basketball courts, gym, soccer field, food stalls, bathrooms, air-conditioned study rooms, and a huge library filled with lots of books you’ll definitely need in your research! One of the things the University is proud of is their Philosophy and Theology Classes which would open your mind in every way possible.
ORGANIZATIONS AND REAL LIFE APPLICATION
The University also has numerous organizations which the students can choose from depending on their hobbies and interests. Do you want to study here but can’t afford the tuition fee? Worry not! Ateneo De Manila University offers Financial Aid Scholarships! The tuition fee and other fees would be waived provided: you’ll be able to maintain a certain grade and render a certain number of service hours at some of the University’s Departments like the Registrar, Department Offices, or on the Office of Student Affairs. Aside from all of this, Ateneo sees to it that their teachings will always coincide with the teachings of the church. They will not stop when they have finally taught you the lessons inside your classroom, they will always go a step further and ask, “Can you apply this in your daily life?”
In the end, what matters most is if the university offers programs which piques your hobbies and interests. After all, attending a university isn’t about the amenities and the beautiful surroundings; it will always come down to matching your interests and the learning you want to acquire. Learning does not stop inside the classroom – it is important to gain knowledge which you can use and apply on the real world as well. Choose a university that would coincide with the values you believe in and the principles you hold.
