DO you want to know how you can you make the best out of your first year in Ateneo De Manila University? Inn this article, we will be sharing with you the do’s and the don’ts to make your first year easy and memorable!
ALWAYS BE CONSIDERATE
Always be considerate of other people. Don’t make too much noise especially on the hallways. Remember, people are studying and some tend to feel uncomfortable when it is too noisy or worse, they can’t even focus if their environment is not ‘well equipped’ for studying. Remember the golden rule: do unto others what you want others to do unto you.
JOIN AN ORGANIZATION
Be active and join an organization! It is much better if you will join an Academic Organization, but you may always opt for whatever you think suits you well. There are different kinds of organizations which have different levels of focus. Some focus on academics, some on extra curricular, some focuses on arts like photography or dancing, some focuses on literary, on sports, on social awareness, and much more! Organizations can help you in the entire duration of your stay in college, and some, even stay connected with their orgmates even after graduating college. This is where your connections in the outside world will start, so make sure that you will be joining one! Avoid joining organizations which promotes the culture of “hazing”, because aside from the fact that these can result to harming of the members or even worse, death, any form of hazing is punishable by Philippine Laws.
STAY HUMBLE AND KEEP STRIVING FOR SUCCESS
Always strive to win but don’t forget to keep your feet on the ground. After all, no one wants to be associated with a person who brags about almost everything. Always go for success, but remember to stay humble. Also, don’t let the school spoon feed you too much. Working in the real world is a lot messier, stressful, and they wouldn’t be as nice to you as your university is. While it’s nice to ask people for help, train yourself to work on your own too.
DON’T PUT TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON YOURSELF
To quote a movie, “This is college, not a pressure cooker”. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself! Yes, your goal is to succeed. But putting too much pressure on yourself will do you even more harm than good. Study hard, but find time to rest as well. Find time to pursue your interests and your hobbies while studying. Also, do not forget that failure is inevitable. Remember that there will be a time when you will experience failure and this is normal – everyone has gone through this. What matters is that you will always get back up and that you will always keep moving forward. Remember, it does not matter how slow you go as long as you do not stop.
Following these simple tips can surely make your college life at Ateneo De Manila easy and fun!
