In this article, you will learn the steps on how to apply as a teacher in the Philippines.

How to Apply for a Teaching Post in the Philippines

Here are the basic steps on how to apply for a teaching position and submit your requirements. Take note that the application process runs from January to April every year.

  1. Complete your application requirements.

The basic application materials consist of the following:

    1. application form
    2. Civil Service Commission Form 212
    3. LET Results
    4. School Transcripts
    5. Records of your Teaching Experience
    6. Other records

Refer to the complete and detailed list of requirements in this article.

  1. Send your application materials online.

You must fill out the online application form in the DepEd website to put your details in their system. You must have a valid email address to register online. Fill out their form by visiting their page: http://application.deped.gov.ph.
How To Become a DepEd Teachers

When you apply online, prepare the following ID numbers for you to fill out in the online form:

  • TIN (tax identification number)
  • Unified Multi-purpose ID (UMID)
  • Postal ID
  • SSS ID or
  • PhilHealth ID
  1. Check your email.

Check your email from time to time (at most 48 hours) until you receive a verification notice. Then open your account and update your Personal Data Sheet.

  2. Get your applicant number.

Get your applicant number once your email address has been confirmed and you have updated your personal data sheet. Write or print your applicant number on a typewriting paper and attach it in your application folder.

  3. Submit your application requirements.

Then, send your application materials directly to the head of the public school that you would like to teach in. If you do wish to apply to a public elementary or high school, you should apply to the nearest place of your residence, per the R.A. No. 8190. This Republic Act states that you must be assigned as a teacher to your nearest residence.

  4. Prepare for your job interview.

Once you have submitted your requirements, wait until the school contacts you for a job interview. They will provide you with a schedule for your interview. While waiting, do some research on the school that you are applying for to show that you are truly interested in the institution. When the day of the interview arrives, make sure to dress appropriately and show professionalism when answering their questions.

Pro-tip: Use the same language that the HR uses when answering their questions. That is, when asked in English, use the English language and when casually asked in Filipino, use Filipino as well.

  1. Execute a demo teaching plan.

Be ready with a well-prepared and lesson plan that you will execute in front of a “class” of evaluators and supervisors. This will include master teachers, school heads, and principals. Make sure that you will get their attention from start to finish. You know you are not doing well when some of them start talking to each other as if they’re not listening anymore.

  2. Take the English Proficiency Exam.

This exam is mandatory for all teacher applicants. Make sure to study the basics of English proficiency such as grammar, spelling, and reading comprehension.

  3. Wait for the results.

The results of the exam is always posted in the bulletin board of your respective division office. The first 10 or so in the ranking will immediately get hired by the school. Make sure to also follow up on the results as well.

Sample Applicant Letter

Every position to become a DepEd teacher requires an application letter. Below is a sample application letter for your reference:

Dr. Melvin Rabaya

Principal

Notre Dame National High School

Dear Sir:

It is with honor that I wish to secure a teaching position in the elementary department in your humble institution. I believe that honing the educational needs of a student in elementary is crucial to his/her personal and learning growth. This is why as a public servant, I wish to offer my skills and services in your good school.

I possess good instructional skills and interpersonal abilities at work. I also show professionalism at work, which I believe can all contribute to the success of your good institution.

I finished my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2006 and served as a Grade 5 teacher in Padre Gadon Elementary School for four straight years. I have passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) last 2007, which has already made me qualified for a teaching position in a public school since then.

Learning in the Basic Education is a critical stage for our students. With this in mind, I have always taught my students to discover their potentials, improve on their strengths, work on their weaknesses, and master their unique skills that they can share with their community.

As a teacher and public servant, I wish to guide these students and provide a stimulating environment while they are learning and exploring their skills. I also hope to facilitate a friendly environment that can improve the students’ interpersonal skills as they discover trust, respect, confidence, and discipline together with their peers. Finally, I wish nothing but success to this young generation, who will be the ones next in line to teach and serve our country through their own unique contributions.

After four consecutive years of teaching in a private school, I have learned that facilitating the learning environment of the students is a better teaching style instead of giving them with the traditional process of spoon-feeding them with lessons. All the students need is the freedom to learn on their own and with their peers while the teacher is there to guide them with the activities being presented to them. This is what I wish to offer to your humble institution—by guiding more students and applying what I’ve learned for the past four years when I first started teaching.

By teaching in your good school, I hope I can continue my passion to help and guide students to a path where each of them would love to continue learning every day for the rest of their lives.

Attached is my resume for your reference. Should you have any questions, kindly send me a message at rorlt.tray@gmail.com. Thank you very much for your kind consideration and I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Ms. Rorlt Tray
